Urban Legends: Survival Review—This Nepali-Folklore-Inspired Game Has Left Me Spooked
And now, yet another day is gone.
With just 3 days until Halloween, I can’t quite contain my excitement for the spooky occasion, especially when I can already taste that pumpkin spice latte! 🎃
Now that I’ve exhausted all my usual options, a thought sprouted in my mind all of a sudden.
With that in mind, I had somehow come to find myself in this situation.

Quiet as a church mouse, I crept stealthily to an alley between two buildings in medieval Kathmandu. After casting a side glance left and right, I figured the coast was clear and trod warily towards the glowing torch.
Torch-igniting skill—✅
Heart pounding against my chest—✅
As the surroundings took on a red hue, fear blossomed in my heart, causing my mind to be whirling with numerous thoughts—Blimey, I didn’t ensure that I had left the area quick enough! Good Lords, what the bloody hell is that? Can I even outrun it?

In my mad rush to get it off my tail, I’ve forgotten entirely about something crucial—the noise metre. What that means is that whenever you run in the game, you will generate noise and attract any roving entities, which belong in Nepali folklores, within the area easily.
Before long, I find myself dying a horrific death.
That, folks, pretty much sums up a typical session of Urban Legends: Survival (ULS), which is solely developed by Ashim Shakya in its entirety.

That being the case, what you’re really after are the glowing torches. So, the more glowing torches you ignite—done by stepping on them (Bizarre, innit? 😅)—the more points you’ll acquire.
Though it may not be as tricky as games like Identity V, you’ll still be sitting through ULS on your lonesome. Sometimes, I’d wish I had a couple more pairs of eyes to keep an eye out for the wandering entities, or should I say, the urban legends themselves. 👀

Sigh, they may just sneak up on you when you least expect them to!
The upside to ULS, though, is the combination of the eerie sounds, surreal environment, and urban legends’ appearances, which undoubtedly enhances the atmosphere’s spookiness. Sure, the game may not be as scary as Endless Nightmare, but it certainly offers an immersive experience. Even so, I may have only encountered 3 of them—The Murkatta, Pret, and Kichkandi—thus far, but I’m pretty sure I do not want to run into any of the remaining legends.
Anyway, think you’re a brave soul? If you happen to be one, I’ll challenge you to a game of ULS here! 🎮
Otherwise, follow my page and stay tuned for more reviews on other horror games in celebration of this spooky season.
