What do cats do when you’re not paying attention? - Cats and the Other Lives Quick Review
Cats and the Other Lives is a great narrative-driven point-and-click game that tells a twisty, heartwarming tale about a broken family mourning the death of their grandfather.
THE STORY
Cats and the Other Lives’s story begins after the sudden death of Bernard Mason, the patriarch of the Mason family. The remaining of the Mason family return to their rather eerie childhood home for one last time to mourn Bernard while reconnecting with one another. I played Aspen, the cat of the household, journeying through the sorrow, disappointment, and regret of this family while uncovering mysteries about Bernard along the way.

PLATFORMS
Cats and the Other Lives is only available on PC right now and exclusively via Steam. I found no issues with the game’s performance.
TIME PLAYED
I played Cats and the Other Lives for roughly two and a half hours but made it through a significant portion of the game. The entire game can be completed in five to six hours.

WHAT’S AWESOME
• Narrative. The stories I unraveled in Cats and the Other Lives were equally heartwarming, eerie, and mysterious. The more I delved into its narrative, the more interested I became in discovering the truth about this family—and this experience quickly turned from mourning the death of a loved one to figuring out a dark mystery.
• Puzzles. The gameplay in Cats and the Other Lives revolves around solving puzzles. None of these puzzles were too challenging, but they were perplexing enough to offer me a sense of fulfillment.

• Visuals. Cats and the Other Lives boasts a beautiful display of 2D pixel art ed by modern cinematic lighting that complements the narrative’s rather eerie setting.
WHAT SUCKS
• Interaction. This is a relatively minor issue, but I wish there were more characters and objects that could be interacted with or places to visit throughout Cats and the Other Lives. The focuses a bit too much on its direct, linear narrative as opposed to allowing players to actually explore.
SHOULD YOU PLAY IT?
Yes. Cats and the Other Lives is a purrfect opportunity to dive into a well-made narrative that inspired many strong emotions in me. Between its great visuals and compelling story, this game had me as curious as, well, a cat.
