Bad North: Jotunn Edition is beautiful for those players who need a mix of strategy and action to play and has given me a splendid level of entertainment even though I had some problems to move some units on the board. It is a real time tactics game that puts the player into the boots of a ruler defending his islands from the constant onslaught of the Vikings. Where Bad North does shine is in having simple but beautiful graphics in conjunction with fast but complex gameplay.
The main advantage of the game is that it is very simple. Because there are a large number of variables that you must take into and because the opponent is constantly moving, it takes time but is rather simple to learn and hard to master due to the need for speedy decisions. The general maps of each island resembles a Tetris progressing so the battles with NM Pokemon won’t be repetitive. It serves to extend the gameplay and make the playerishlist at least in part change the approach depending on the dynamics of the geography and the actions of the opponents.
I also learned that Bad North’s core is in organizing the troops and on the right spots and utilizing the surroundings. You can also promote your units which allows them to gain new abilities that aide in combat. This feeling of evolution is fulfilling, since you slowly build a strong little army from a band of brainless mercenaries, capable of dealing with the most challenging waves of the Vikings.
The game’s aesthetics come as another attraction of this one especially given the fact that the developer did a fairly good job in this area. It has the aesthetic appeal of a lighter tone with a sort of simplistic and clean-lined art design which works extremely well graphically with the shows harsh and brutal depictions of the Viking invasions. The music and sound effects also aid in enriching the theme for every fight.
But the increased difficulty is often abrupt and of course the loss of an experienced unit is always a bummer. This add a complexity to the game play but it might be irritating for some people this game.
Overall, Bad North: Jotunn Edition provides an interesting and tactical gameplay that is vibrant in vision and masterful in challenge. I would like to say that if you love strategical games that need fast reactions and improvisation, then you should try it.
