Monster Hunter Stories departs significantly from the regular Monster Hunter game experience as it is an RPG game that offers more of story than fighting. Unlike other games where you hunt them down to kill them, Monster Hunter World lets you ride different creatures called “Monsties.” This change makes the game focus more on story than some of the other titles in the series do.
Great animations which accompany this game are colorful, and the art style is quite suitable for an adventure game. The environments are explained well and the monster designs are quite close to the main series but with a twist to fit into an RPG game. And it is this, which gives the player a sort of new and growing old of the world that the Monster Hunter series graced the players with.
Monster Hunter Stories also brings turn-base combat that adds an extra layer of strategy making you to really think when to act. Its battle system is based on rock-paper-scissors: Power, Speed, and Technical attacks imply that you need to know your opponent’s type. That along with feature of being able to ride Monsties in battle is quite an improvement and does not make the battles boring.
The most prominent feature is bonding I think. Breeding them through raising monster eggs provides the player character with foster Monsties which forms on aspect of developing an extermination attachment. Monsties have different abilities and elemntal affinities, ensuring that the fight experience is not monotonous and the quests engaging.
There are wonderful ideas behind the story and the narrative is touching and sound indicating friendship, trust and adventurous spirit. It is interesting enough to engage, and it is filled with interesting characters that you meet during the narrative.
In conclusion, Monster Hunter Stories is a brilliant RPG that expands on the universe of Monster Hunters in the best possible way and is absolutely worth playing, no matter whether you are a veteran of the series or not.
