Black Myth: Wukong Review by average player
Translate
I know people are worried about the PS5 version, so I decided to be one of the lab rats to play the first hour of the game before the reviews start flooding. I hope this is helpful to someone.
Performance: Up until now, I faced 4 bosses (including the introductory one) and I have faced NO performance issues at all. I am playing in performance mode and it seems to be consistently 60fps. I haven't noticed a frame drop yet.Looks: I think the game looks absolutely stunning and it definitely feels like I am playing a PS5 game now, specially for it being able to run 60fps.
Fun: It starts very easy but it can become challenging quickly. It is super fun to learn and beat bosses, and it feels very rewarding to take them, much like souls games.
Story: I've seen a lot of complaints about the story in the reviews but so far I think it is way too cool. I am definitely invested and didn't find it lacking at all.
Personal opinions: So far, I noticed I had most success when playing very aggressive, which is the playstyle I like the most. Also, the MC's weapon movement was weird for me at first and I didn't like the blur very much, but one hour into it and I am starting to feel used to it.I don't know if there will be problems later, or why the hell they decided not to send the PS5 version for review, but so far it looks very very good.Obs.
Pros:
✅ Smooth Performance - Runs at a constant 60 FPS on Performance Mode, with no noticeable frame drops.
✅ Good Graphics - Beautifully designed and classy, graphics are next-gen and offer what any PS5 game should have.
✅ Engaging Combat - Boss fights are enjoyable, challenging, and rewarding, much like any Souls game.
✅ Fast-Paced Playstyle - Aggressive play seems to be the most efficient approach and fun to fight in.
✅ Nice Story - I, for one, find the story engaging, despite some negative critiques.
Cons:
❌ Weapon Movement Feels Weird at Times - It takes a while to get used to the controls.
❌ The Motion Blur Might Distract You - Some might find it uncomfortable.
❌ Not Sure over Long-Term Performance- The first hour flows smoothly and might bring issues ahead.
❌ No PS5 Review Copies Were Sent-Raises potential concerns about the game later on.
Important to note that this is based on my personal opinion, and everything I described is only for the first hour, and although this may seem pointless this can be a little contribution for someone who isn't sure to buy it or not but doesn't want to wait much longer.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Even so far, this PS5 version performs really well at a smooth 60 FPS with no notable hitches in performance. Graphics are beautiful, fast-paced combat is engaging and rewarding, and boss fights are thrilling. Some particulars, like moving weapons or motion blur, may take some getting used to, but they certainly won't ruin the experience. The story's looking interesting, contrary to some of early reviews. Some worries, however, do arise from the total absence of PS5 review copies, which casts doubt on whether there will be pitfalls ahead.
So far, it appears to be a good choice if you're into Souls-like combat and want a challenge, albeit a fair one.
